Warning U.S.-North Korea Relations?

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un made an announcement stating that North Korea will no longer continues its nuclear and missile tests along with Kim’s intention to dismantle the nuclear test site at Punggye-ri with international journalists as witnesses. The announcement proposes a significant possibility for the United States to both restraint North Korea’s nuclear weapons program and eliminate nuclear weapons from the Korean Peninsula. According to (Wolfsthal, 2018), the United States should fortify North Korea to start taking step-by-step process and/or sign the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT)—”as part of an initial diplomatic effort to precisely define the current missile and nuclear test freeze and to make it more durable through transparent and legally binding means.” Whereas, the step-by-step process includes: freeze testing, cap arsenals, dismantle infrastructure, and disarm existing materials and nuclear weapons out of North Korea.
