Internship Insights: Ella Wigington

I learned about the World Affairs Council through its easily accessible website. After reading the mission statement and wanting to promote the goals of the Council to help South Texans participate in a global community, I decided to apply and was offered an internship. Throughout the summer, I learned that starting with small responsibilities can lead to great opportunities. I balanced daily office tasks with coordinating, attending, and writing about large-scale events, such as the dinner with the Consul General of France and the luncheon with the U.S. Ambassador to Panama. Working with two other interns, we learned to keep each other updated and felt comfortable asking each other for help when necessary. Spending Summer 2016 as a WAC intern improved my communication skills, time management, event planning, problem-solving, and other skills easily transferable to a number of future opportunities.
