Distinguished Speaker: Ambassador James Creagan

With more than 30 years of experience as a career diplomat, Ambassador James Creagan has served in more than a dozen countries around the world. He is the Director of the Center for International Studies, Ambassador in Residence, and the current holder of the Amy Freeman Lee Chair of Humanities at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio. Following his fall trip to Cuba, he will share new insights about this sunny isle of contrasts, known for its cigars and revolution, as it seeks new international partnerships, loosens restrictions on U.S. travel there, and considers calls from business leaders, politicians, and religious leaders to lift embargoes. In addition to serving as the United States ambassador to Honduras, Amb. Creagan has been Deputy Chief of Mission in the American embassies to Italy, the Holy See, and Peru; Consul General in São Paulo, Brazil; and special Charge d'Affaires in Boliva.
