Announcing Keynote Discussion, “Conversations on the Middle East”

At our International Citizen of the Year Dinner, attendees will experience an unforgettable keynote discussion on the Middle East with former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, biographer David B. Roosevelt, and Nobel Peace Prize nominee Dr. Rajaa Khuzai.

Dr. Madeleine Albright

An advocate for global human rights and democracy, Dr. Albright served first as the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 1993-1997 and as the 64th Secretary of State from 1997-2001 under President Clinton, the first woman to hold the position. As Secretary of State, Albright reinforced America’s alliances and promoted American trade and business, labor and environmental standards abroad. Currently, she serves as a professor in the Practice of Diplomacy at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Affairs, chairs the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs and the Pew Global Attitudes Project, and serves as president of the Truman Scholarship Foundation. She is also chair of Albright Stonebridge Group, a global strategy firm, and of Albright Capital Management LLC, an investment advisory firm focused on emerging markets. In 2012, Albright received the U.S. Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, for what President Obama calls her efforts to make the world a better, more peaceful place.

David B. Roosevelt

Grandson to former President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt, David B. Roosevelt has spent his life in close contact with the policies that influenced contemporary United States foreign policy. His book, Grandmère: A Personal History of Eleanor Roosevelt, chronicles Eleanor Roosevelt’s development as a political figure in her own right, tapping into her own power to influence human rights and democracy across the world. His understanding of the policy perspectives of his illustrious grandparents ensures a unique commentary on the topic of the night.

Dr. Rajaa Khuzai

Dr. Rajaa Khuzai, a 2004 Nobel Peace Prize nominee, has served as a strong advocate for women’s rights and political participation in the Middle East. After the U.S. invasion of Iraq, Khuzai was a member of the Interim Iraq Governance and one of three women serving on the twenty-five member Governing Council. Dr. Khuzai also served as a member of the Iraqi National Assembly and is president of the Women’s Organization in the Iraqi city of Diwaniah, founder of the Women’s Health Center in Baghdad, and founder of the Widow’s Care Organization.
